Replacement Electrode Repair Installation in DCS Rotisserie Smoker.

The electrodes we use to replace the ignition on infrared DCS rotisserie burners are also used with the smoker burner and the electrode is also used in Nexgrill, Kenmore, Perfect Flame, Members Mark, Jenn Air and more barbecue grill models. Since DCS was sold and re-sold, common parts we buy direct to be able to offer the best quality and the best price for the level of quality a DCS deserves. We do still go to DCS for some replacement parts but for something like this it is too easy to make an other electrode work for a third of the DCS price.

Replace Rotisserie Electrode?

It is rare we have to replace the electrode in the DCS rotisserie. Lower barbecue electrodes have to be replaced because installation is in the way of dripping grease, marinades, sauces, rain, etc. The rotisserie is well-protected and is not mounted where anything will dirty the tip to interupt the spark. When we have to replace the electrode in a Dynamic Cooking Systems grill it is usually because the wire was damaged woth heat.

We like this electrode because it comes with an insulated sleeve which is only useful in the rotisserie ignition. However. the length of the total igniter is thirty inches. This means it is not going to plug into the module without splicing the wires. Splicing the wires is a safe and simple operation if done correctly. Clip the wires, strip plastic coating for about one half inch and wrap the 2 wires together before wrapping thickly with electrical tape.

Although there is this extra step for installation, when we had the DCS electrode listed for som much more cost no one selected the DCS rotisserie electrode but instead chose to use this insulated and long electrode to repair their ignitor.

Rotisserie Electrode

We have also used this rotisserie electrode because there are two mounting holes to use for adjustable installation. The total length of this electrode is sixteen inches.

Like the electrode above the wire needs to be spliced to the DCS wire or to a new wire (which we can do if you choose). Some customers like this bracket better than the single mounting bracket on the electrode above. Either one should be simple to install into the DCS control box next to the infrared rotisserie burner.

Although it is common for a customer to contact us and say I need ALL new rods for my grill it is very rare that anyone really needs all the rods replaced. If the stainless is not being maintained the bend in the tray will eventually break. The weight of the break will eventually break the rods as seen in the image above. These rods are broken cleanly -- not smashed -- and could continue to be used in a new tray. They will still radiate heat if they are cracked or broken cleanly. If the rods are smashed so badly they cannot stay in the tray then they should be replaced.

The other way rods can be damaged is when the cooking grates are being moved. DCS cooking grates are very thick and heavy and if they were dropped into the barbecue the rods would be broken where the grid falls. The rods are locked into the stainless radiant tray so they are very easy to remove as one assembly. The entire tray with the rods locked into place should be periodically removed from the grill, sprayed with a powerful degreaser, washed clean and replaced.

The infrared rotisserie burner is a vertical burner on the back of the DCS gas grill. The thermocouple and the ignition electrode are protected by a stainless steel box which must be removed to access the thermocouple or the igniter electrode. DCS models also have a door on the back side opposite this box. The access panel can be removed with a single allen-wrench for access insid ehte burner for the gas line, electrode wire route, to remove the thermocouple and to access the orifice.
