Burners For Weber Summit 400/600 Barbecue Models.

Although the main burner, smoker burner and the sear burner are all listed below the detailed images and descriptions all show the main burner from the Summit gas BBQ grill models. The main burners are 20.5 inches long and have ports along the top of the burner. The ports for gas flame are all on the top of the main Summit burner and the ports are thin and long instead of round like many other pipe burner ports.

Glow Plug Ignition

This switch was used in the DCS Emodel barbecues that had glow-plug electrode igniters. Glow plug electrodes light-up like a light bulb when the button is depressed. The glow plug was used because no matter how windy the heat from the glowing ignition would be constantly available for ignition. The idea was that the intermittant sparking triggered by a momentary switch left a lot of space between sparks so it took longer for gas to ignite.

dcs electrode and collector box

The control valves in the front control panel support the front air-shutter of the burner. As we can see in the photograph above and the schematic on the right we install Weber Summit model barbecue burners by sliding the front of the burner through the fire wall so the air-shutter slides over the gas valve orifice. The notches in the back of the burner click into place in the back of the inner fire box.

Main burner valves have controls that automatically ignite the burners bnecause there is a piezo module built into the movement of the control valve stem. As the valve stem is turned we hear a click which is the module sending electricity to the electrode which is also mounted to the valve. The burner does not have extra ignition ports because the valve sends a small flow of gas through the igniter so a small gas cloud ignites when the valve clicks. This miniature ball of flame dissipates almost immediately - only existing long enough the ignite the burner.

We can tell this is a main Weber Summit burner because the ports are on the top of the burner tube and there is no shield which is how the sear burner is fabricated. Not the ports only run straight down the burner. Unlike most pipe burners there are no perpendicular ports for an ignitor.
