DCS Double Side Burner Ignitor Electrode Kit

The original version of the DCS side burner only had a single electrode that ignited both range-top sections. This electrode inside a stainless steel bracket mounts in the center of the top side burner tray and gas from each of the burners meets in the middle where the electrode sparks. The replacement ignition kit comes with the electrode, electrode wire, stainless bracket and the hardware to install the replacement igniter into the range. This igniter fits all the older side burners regardless of whether the double side burner is a built in insert in an outdoor kitchen, is integrated in the grill head, is on a cart or is bolted to the side of a grill. All the older side burners had the same electrode.

DCS 132 and BGB 132 Double Sideburner

This replacement ignition kit for the range top side burner is installed in the original A model and B model DCS barbecue grills. The A and B models by Dynamic Cooking Systems are noticable because these are the models that have lava rocks and cast iron burners. These models also did not have a battery controlled or electronic igniter module.

The best way to check to see if this is your side burner electrode is to lift the steel panel and look between the two burner heads. This single electrode crosses over to ignite both the front and the back side burner.

DCS-132 Side Burner Parts Schematic

The side burner today is the BGB132 model but the original side burner range by Dynamic Cooking Systems was a DCS132 model burner. This drawing is from a users manual. The specification drawing is called an exploded view because all of the parts are drawn visible os though in three dimensions. The electrode for the side burner belongs in the blue circle we have drawn on the specification. The front burner and the back burner were designed to leak gas to the electrode so the single electrode and bracket could ignite both range top burners.

Another way to determine if this is the electrode for your side burner is the ignition module. The origial DCS ignitor module was a single push, single click piezo they called an Otto Switch. The older models did not have battery modules.

porcelain rods broken on straight line is maintenance problem

The biggest problem with replacing the double side burner ignition electrode assembly is removing the old assembly. Just as outdoor weather and the messes of cooking affect the electrode and the collector over the ignition electrode the mounting screws are also adversely affected.

It is not uncommon to have to drill out the screws or gride off the screws in order to remove the old ignition.

Over time we may eventually overboil something or spill something on the side burner range but it is rare to need to replace the electrode on the side burner. It is more likely we need to replace the spark generator module which will eventually wear out allow It is fairly simple to replace the old Otto switch piezo with a rotary or a battery powered module.

To view the electrode and cross over tubes in the DCS model 132 double side burner we have to lift off the grilling grate and then lift off the stainless panel below the grid. In between the burners is the cross-over igniter tubes and the small steel head with the electrode inside.
