Although the majority of Viking gas grills with infrared burners are barbecue models that combine the TruSear burner with the Viking Center-Fed U Burner and the straight pipe smoker burners, there were Viking models that were all infrared. These Viking models have two TruSear burners and are usually referred to as a kind of side burner. The TruDSear burner in the all infrared Viking gas grills looks the same as the infrared TruSear burner in the more common hybrid models but there are some important differences in the design of the infrared burner to allow it to fit properly in the all infrared grill structure.

Viking Tru-Sear Infrared Burner. This Viking Tru-Sear infrared burner looks different from other infrared grill burners becasue the entire burner is stainless steel. The top of the Viking tru sear burner is layer after layer of stainless mesh screens. Gas pressure pushes through the screening but the stainless also gets hot and radiates the heat across and back through the layers of screening. |

Viking Tru-Sear Burner All Infrared.Note the burner below has a front bracket resting on the ground. The Tru-Sear burner on the Left has a rectangle i the venturi opening but also has a very recognizable support section under the burner so the burner does not sit right on the ground. ![]() Again on the Left side we can see the Viking All-Infrared TruSear burner from the bottom where this support stage is more obvious. The Viking infrared burner still has brackets front and back but there is also an aditional support on the bottom of the stainless steel infrared housing. Also, Note the ignition electrode is mounted in the front of the grill burner and in the back of the all infrared burner. |
Viking All Infrared Grill Tru-Sear Burner DimensionsTop of infrared burner rectangle without screen is 19.75 inches by 9 1/8 inches. Width at 9 1/8 inches includes the long brackets along the sides of the burner Flat Bracket under venturi tube is 2 inches deep and 4.75 inches wide. Flat Bracket at the bottom back of the burner is 4.75 inches wide and 2 inches deep. Infrared Tru-Sear Burner venturi tube is 3.75 inches long and rectangle opening is 1 x 1.75 inch. Total Length of infrared Tru-Sear burner from longest tip to tip is 23.25 inches long. Angled flange along the bottom of the burner lifts the housing 2.25 inches off the floor. As we can see in the image of the valve above the infrared tru sear burner in Viking grills pulls a lot of air and a lot of gas to pressurize this burner casing. The Viking burner has layers of steel screens instead of the thick ceramic tile on top of the burner for pressurized gas flames to heat-up the grill. The burner has brackets on all four sides to keep these screens bracketed in place. When a Viking owner has to replace their infrared tru sear burner the problem is usually these layers of screens rusting or corroding as shown in the image above right. |

The most obvious difference between the infrared Viking burner in the images on the page above and these tru-sear burner images is the placement of the electrode. The majority of the Viking Tru-Sear infrared grill burners has the double prong electrode mounted to the burner in the front side next to the venturi tube. However there was a Viking model with a slightly different TruSear burner that has the electrode mounted in the back of the grill.
This different trusear Viking infrared grill burner also has a wide flange on the bottom of the burner but the more common infrared burner does not have that long stainless flange. This piece looks like a stand for the burner to be a little higher than where the bottom of the burner would otherwise stand with the bottom of the burner on the floor of the barbecue grill.
The infrared burner venturi tube is huge in the Viking TruSear burner because of the pressurization of fuel inside the housing. The gas orifice seems very small when installed in this large gas tube.
The burner above is from a hybrid infrared tru-sear burner and the venturi opening is wide open. Another distinction between the two burners is the rectangular opening for the control valve to enter the venturi tube in the all-infrared Viking.
